Veterans Issues of Justice and Dignity Addressed at Conference

“Military Service & the Law: Issues of Justice and Dignity at Home and Abroad,” is being presented June 3 and 4, 2011, by The Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic (VLSC) at The John Marshall Law School.

The conference will address questions of justice and dignity for those who have served or are currently serving. Top military attorneys and veterans affairs officials will address how the United States is assisting its veterans.

Guest speakers will be U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs General Counsel William Gunn; Judge William A. Moorman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims; and Major General Steven J. Lepper, Deputy Judge Advocate General, U.S. Air Force.

The 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. program on Friday, June 3, will cover legal and medical issues; domestic violence issues faced by soldiers and their families; state veterans benefits; perspective from the judiciary; and veterans service organizations’ perspec­tives.

The 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. program on Saturday, June 4, will include rule of law initiatives; and recent developments and emerging issues with the Uniformed Services Employment & Reemployment Act.

This two-day conference is given in conjunction with a free June 2, program on establishing veterans’ clinics at law schools.
