On November 3, 2012, he gave two presentations at the Fall Meeting of the Iowa Radiological Society in Coralville, Iowa. The presentations were “Why Do Radiologists Get Sued” and “Communication Issues/Do The ACR Guidelines Represent The Standard Of Care.” The meeting was jointly sponsored by the Iowa Radiological Society and The Department of Radiology, University of Iowa College of Medicine.

She was interviewed by Jim Anderson of Illinois Radio Network on Nov. 5, 2012, on the Illinois Constitutional Amendment proposal.
She was interviewed Nov. 7, 2012, by the Chicago Tribune on voters agreeing to retain Judge Cynthia Brim on the bench in the Circuit Court of Cook County despite the judge’s behavior that got her arrested.

She was a presenter at the “A Day of American Law” at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic in October 2012 as part of The John Marshall Law School annual Czech Exchange Program. Her discussion focused how law schools are accredited by the American Bar Association, and the options that allow foreign students to study law in the U.S. and foreign lawyers to practice law in the U.S.

He was a presenter at the Autumn School of Legal Writing, Masaryk University Faculty of Law, Brno, Czech Republic in October 2012. He discussed “An Overview of the U.S. Legal System and Stare Decisis; Organizing Legal Analysis and Synthesizing the Law.”
He also presented “The Anglo Concept of Stare Decisis and its Use in Practice” for the “A Day of American Law” program at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic in October 2012.

He was a guest presenter Nov. 2 at Loyola University College of Law’s Constitutional Law Colloquium. He spoke on “The New Separation of Powers and the Vanishing Value of Access to Justice.”
He was a guest on Chicago Public Radio WBEZ-FM on Nov. 7 doing analysis on the election results.
Professor Debra Pogrund Stark
Activities
At the Oct. 23, 2012 meeting, she was elected chairperson of the Residential Mortgage Board, the advisory board to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s Division of Banking.
She heard testimony from a dozen housing and other non-profit community organization representatives who outlined the continuing problem of predatory lending, foreclosures and their impact on the community and individuals in the community. Testimony also was given by citizens directly affected by predatory lending, unemployment, and foreclosure actions.
As chair of the Residential Mortgage Board, Stark plans to have the Board examine further the data, concerns, and proposals presented at the meeting and develop proposed ways to improve community education/outreach efforts, better implementation of the laws already on the books to address these problems, and to work with the community organizations in recommending additional legal protections for the State to consider.
Professor Stark and Dr. Jessica Choplin of DePaul University
They are collaborating with Andrew Pizer, staff attorney with the National Consumer Law Center, to create and run experiments that test whether a simpler, more conspicuous and user-friendly disclosure of APR information on home loan disclosures can better assist consumers in evaluating which is the lowest cost loan among several examples, than the current home loan disclosure forms proposed by the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in their proposed revised home loan disclosure forms released in July 2012.
James P. Muraff, Adjunct Professor
Activities
He has been selected to serve a three-year term on the editorial board of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s AIPLA Quarterly Journal. The journal has a readership of 16,000 worldwide. Muraff will work with other board members in selecting articles for publication.
Muraff is teaching Substantive Patent Law II for the Center for Intellectual Property Law. He is a partner at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP.
