Do you know your fair housing rights? And are you sure you’re protected? A guest column in the Windy City Times by William Kingston, a student at John Marshall, reveals federal fair housing protections offered to LGBTQ citizens are situational at best. While LGBTQ persons are categorized into the protected classes of sexual orientation or gender identity, federal fair housing and amendment acts do not yet specifically recognize these categories as protected. Luckily, at the state and local level, Illinois and Chicago provide more robust protections.
