The Student Bar Association (SBA) honored outstanding student organizations and members of faculty and staff at Spring Fling on April 24, 2013, the final SBA event of the 2012-2013 academic year.
William Powers, associate dean for Student Affairs, and Kurt Brna, SBA president, presented faculty members and organizations with plaques and certificates.
“This school’s organizations have won national awards for their efforts this year,” Powers said. “You should all be proud.”
Professor Arthur Acevedo was presented with the award for Overall Favorite Professor based on student balloting. Professor Timothy O’Neill was presented with the award for Favorite Professor of the 2013 graduating class.
The Latino Law Students Association (LLSA) was awarded Most Active Student Organization Overall, earning the most points for the spring 2013 semester. LLSA also was awarded Most Active Minority Student Organization.
Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) was named the Most Active Fraternity for the spring 2013 semester. The International Law Society was Most Active Organization in an Area of Law.
Certificates of merit for the spring 2013 semester were awarded to the Black Law Students Association, the Corporate Law Association, the Middle Eastern Law Students Association, National Lawyers Guild and Women’s Law Caucus.
Members of faculty and staff also were recognized by the SBA for their support during the spring 2013 semester: Justice Margaret O’Mara Frossard (ret.), director of Professionalism and Career Strategy; Sherri Berendt (JD ’99), director of Alumni Relations; Michael Huggins, director of Digital Communications; Floyd D. Perkins (JD ’77/LLM ’83), Board of Trustees member; Marilyn Criss, administrative assistant for Student Affairs; Jodie Needham, assistant dean for Academic Services; Kevin Hull (JD ’00), adjunct professor; Dean John E. Corkery; and Powers.
