The Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic (VLSC) at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago welcomed area pro bono attorneys and veterans to an open house event on Nov. 7, 2012.

Founded in 2008, the VLSC will have a new location at 19 W. Jackson St., in spring of 2013. Students currently are working out of a small office space in the Plymouth Court building.

Director Brian Clauss, and staff attorneys Steve Novak and Sean Ryan, gave guided tours of the unfinished space.  Wall framing was in place and architectural drawings gave guests a view of what the finished space will look like. The various conference spaces and offices will better accommodate staff and pro bono attorneys, clinical students and clients in the growing program.

“It’s a privilege to serve as director of the VLSC,” Clauss said. “We’re all here to serve those who served us.” VLSC is the first program of its kind. It has inspired other law schools throughout the country to begin their own veterans legal program.

Clauss gave special recognition to those individuals and organizations that have supported the law school this past year,  including Mark S. Grotefeld, of Grotefeld Hoffman Schleiter Gordon & Ochoa, and Frank Del Barto (JD/LLM ’07), of Masuda Funai. North Suburban Bar Association and Masco Corporation Foundation were also honored.
