Renovations on John Marshall State Street Entrance Begin

The John Marshall Law School has begun its $10 million renovation project that will relocate its main entrance to State Street, and enlarge space for student needs.

A day after the June 21, 2011, symbolic “groundbreaking” ceremony in the former Walgreen’s space, crews began the remodeling work that will relocate the law school’s front entrance from Plymouth Court to State Street.  The space also will be used as a student lounge, and house Beck’s Book Store and a food service.

The current Sargis-Miner Student Lounge on the second floor of the State Street building will be enlarged and will be accessible from a staircase off of the first floor space.

“Our expansion not only provides needed space but gives the law school the image and presence it deserves, right in the middle of State Street’s South Loop Education Corridor,” said Jordan Peters (JD ’72), chairman of The John Marshall Law School Board of Trustees Building Committee.

The second phase of the renovation project will include remodeling the newly purchased three-story building at 19 W. Jackson.
