Ahmad Al-Dajani had a busy summer. The rising second-year student externed for two judges, spending the first half of his summer with Hon. Danny J. Boggs of the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio before joining with Hon. Thomas Kilbride of the Illinois Supreme Court to finish his summer.
Al-Dajani is believed to be the first John Marshall law student to hold a clerkship with a federal appellate judge and a state supreme court justice in one summer.
“The John Marshall Law School prepared me for my externships by assisting me in developing my legal writing skills through their wonderful legal writing program. This program gave me a solid legal writing foundation that I was able to build upon during my externships,” said Al-Dajani.
Al-Dajani hopes to parlay his externship experiences into a full-time judicial clerkship after graduation.
John Marshall’s externship program also has been instrumental in helping students get clerkships. Under the law school’s experiential learning requirement, students must complete three credit hours through a clinical experience or an externship. This program will help guarantee John Marshall students have the legal education foundation partnered with the training that makes them practice ready.
This recent requirement builds upon John Marshall’s nationally recognized Lawyering Skills Program, ranked number two in the nation by US News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools edition. With this additional experiential learning requirement, John Marshall leads the nation in the number of credits required in practice-based courses and experiential learning.
