U.S. Senator Dick Durbin met with students and staff from John Marshall’s Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic on October 18, 2018 to hear more about the work of the clinic and how different service discharges affect military veterans.
Edward Farmer, Interim Director of John Marshall’s Veterans Clinic, opened the discussion with a presentation focusing on the different types of service discharges a servicemember can be given, why some are misperceived and can have a problematic impact on veterans’ post-service lives, and the clinic’s work with veteran discharge upgrades. After the presentation, the Senator heard from John Marshall students and staff regarding their personal experiences and frustrations with the current discharge system and about the issues faced by their clients in the Clinic.
