Professor O’Neill Wins 2018 Kogan Meritorious Achievement Award from Chicago Bar Association

Professor Timothy P. O’Neill of The John Marshall Law School in Chicago was once again honored by the Chicago Bar Association at the 2018 Herman Kogan Awards held last month. This is the fourth time he has received the award in the past seven years.

O’Neill was honored for his article “Posner’s New Book Gives Us All Pause to Think About Fellow Humans,” which focused on the role that empathy plays in the professional lives of lawyers and judges. The article was published as part of O’Neill’s monthly column in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. O’Neill was awarded the Meritorious Achievement Award in the Print – Legal Beat reporting category for this work. He received the same honor in 2012, 2015 and 2016.

O’Neill also recently won first place for his columns at the Illinois Press Awards.

O’Neill teaches criminal law and criminal procedure at John Marshall. His scholarship has been cited in more than 50 federal and state appellate court decisions. In 2006, Chicago Lawyer magazine included him on its list of “10 of the Best Law Professors in Illinois.” For more than 20 years, he has published a monthly column on criminal law in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
