Clinical Professor Allison K. Bethel, Director of John Marshall’s Fair Housing Legal Support Center & Clinic, spoke at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy’s National Convention on June 9 in Washington, D.C.
Bethel moderated the panel “Race and Space: A Straight (Red) Line from Housing Segregation to Communities in Crisis.” Bethel and her fellow panelists discussed how redlining and other discriminatory government policies have hobbled Black communities with a lack of economic investment, depressed property values, underfunded schools and violence. The panel also examined the role housing segregation has played in creating the crisis and explore effective solutions.
