Specialty programs at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago have once again been rated among the nation’s best. For the third year in a row, preLaw Magazine rated John Marshall as one of the top law schools in the country for its Intellectual Property Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution programs.
John Marshall received an A+ rating in intellectual property and an A- in alternative dispute resolution. The programs received the same ratings in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The grades were based on the law school’s curricular offerings in comparison to the offerings of the other 200+ law schools across the nation.
Each year, John Marshall’s Center for Intellectual Property, Information & Privacy Law offers dozens of courses focused on IP, information technology, or privacy law. Additionally, John Marshall’s Center offers LLMs for practicing attorneys and MJs for non-attorneys, in intellectual property or information technology & privacy law. John Marshall is also one of only a handful of law schools in the country to have a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office-Certified clinical program serving the entire United States.
John Marshall’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program also earned top honors from the magazine. The Program is part of the law school’s Center for Advocacy & Dispute Resolution, which offers a J.D. Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution. The certificate allows graduates to distinguish themselves by honing their practical skills in arbitration, client counseling, mediation and negotiation. Students also must complete an approved externship.
John Marshall is also home to the Conflict Resolution Institute & Clinic, which provides pro bono alternative dispute resolution services. Students working in this clinical program are trained to become certified mediators, then develop their skills through mediating actual disputes. Through hands-on practice, students move from having a basic understanding of alternative dispute resolution principles toward mastering essential skills.
