3L Arturo Arriaga Wins Cook County State’s Attorney Law Clerk Award

3L Arturo Arriaga was selected by the Cook County State’s Attorney Office to receive a law clerk award at the 26th Annual El Humanitario Awards Ceremony held last month.

Arriaga initially began working for the Cook County State’s Attorney Child Support Enforcement Unit during the Summer of 2017. He returned to the State’s Attorney Office in the Summer of 2018 and clerked for the Criminal Appeals Unit where he is still clerking.

“This award means a lot to me,” Arriaga said. “I have made a commitment to bring justice to the victims of crimes in our community. Being recognized for what I love to do feels amazing.”

Arriaga expects to transfer to the Post Convictions Unit in December. He will graduate law school in May 2019.

Arriaga received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Are you a student interested in working for the CCSAO? Here is the advice Arturo has for you, “Be ready to get lots of hands-on experience. You’ll be exposed to different matters everyday and that will help you gain the skills you can’t really get from classes because you’re working with real cases.”
