Professor Daryl Lim, Director of the Center for Intellectual Property, Information & Privacy Law at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, will give the keynote address at an event at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Washington, DC on January 25.

The event, which is hosted by Novagraaf, an international patent and trademark consultancy that advises clients on intellectual property strategy and management, will focus on European patents and trademarks.  Marlou van de Braak, an international intellectual property expert will also present at the event and discuss key trends and issues IP professionals need to be aware of in 2018.

Lim recently traveled to Munich where he attended the 33rd Annual U.S. Bar – EPO Liaison Council Meeting between representatives of U.S. Bar groups and the European Patent Office.  Over the past year, he has also given presentations in China, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore and India.

Lim is considered a leader in the fields of antitrust and patent law. His work on post-sale licensing restraints was recently validated by the Supreme Court in Impression Products v. Lexmark International. In his interview with Forbes, he correctly predicted that the Court would overturn decades old precedents created by the appeals court.

His book “Misuse and Antitrust Law: Empirical, Doctrinal and Policy Perspectives” has been lauded in “World Competition Law and Economics Review,” a leading journal focusing on competition law. His book has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court by lawyers for both sides in their briefs in Kimble v. Marvel Enterprises, Inc., a case concerning post-expiration patent royalty payments.

Lim’s work also has been cited in several reports, including those by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Canadian government. He became director of John Marshall’s intellectual property law program in October 2015.

John Marshall’s IP program was the top-ranked IP program in the Midwest and #19 in the nation according to the 2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools. The program has been continuously ranked since the IP rankings began in 2000. It offers masters programs in IP for attorneys and non-attorneys that can be done completely online.
