John Marshall first-year student Brooke-Noelle Royes has been selected for the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA)/Microsoft Intellectual Property Law Institute this summer in Washington, D.C. She was selected from a field of national applicants based on her academic record, professional and faculty recommendations and expressed personal interest, among other factors.
Launched in 2013, the HNBA/Microsoft Intellectual Property Institute provides opportunities for Latino students interested in intellectual property law, including patents, copyrights, trade secrets and trademarks. Each year, up to 25 Latino law students from law schools across the country are chosen to participate in the IP-immersion summer program.
Candidates are selected in a highly competitive process, and selected students are provided substantive instruction, the opportunity to observe first-hand U.S. IP institutions at work and the chance to meet leading members of the IP legal community who will serve as mentors and potentially provide pathways for future job opportunities.
