John Marshall graduate Evan Schanerberger was a 2018 recipient of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Board of Governors Award. He is one of the youngest persons to ever receive the award.
According to the ISBA, “This award is in recognition of Evan’s exemplary service to the ISBA and the legal profession.”
John Marshall alum and ISBA president, Judge Russell Hartigan (’75), nominated Schanerberger for the award.
“I am so humbled to receive this award and thank President Judge Hartigan and my other fellow ISBA supporters,” Schanerberger said. “I wasn’t expecting to be nominated for any award and that’s why receiving the highest annual ISBA award means so much to me. You shouldn’t expect a reward for your work because your work is the reward.”
The award was presented in conjunction with the ISBA Annual Meeting on June 16.
Schanerberger graduated from John Marshall in 2015. He is currently employed as a Special Assistant Attorney General at the Illinois Department of Revenue.
While a student at John Marshall, Schanerberger was the evening student liaison for the Student Bar Association. He also clerked for the City of Chicago and completed an externship with Judge McLean-Meyerson. After graduation, Schanerberger worked in property tax appeals at the Board of Review for Cook County until starting with the Illinois Department of Revenue in 2018.
