US and Asian Attorneys, Judges, Scholars Present International Conference

Protecting trade secrets in Asia and the United States is among the most complex issues Chinese, America and other companies face today. How do U.S. and Asian trade secret protection systems compare? What are the challenges of litigating secrets?

These questions and more were addressed Sept. 18, 2014, at “Protecting Trade Secrets in Asia and the United States: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Directions,” at John Marshall. The conference featured several panels of legal experts from across the world, including professors from East China University of Political Science and Law, Chiao Tung University, Hamline University and Drake University.

As part of the addition to the international gathering, John Marshall presented Dr. Lulin Gao with an honorary degree at a special Academic Convocation and Luncheon. The convocation honored the 20th anniversary of the  SIPO collaboration, as well as the 10th anniversary of John Marshall’s partnership with National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

Dr. Gao is one of China’s leading intellectual property law experts. Gao was also commissioner of the Chinese Patent Office and a founding commissioner of  SIPO. For the last several years Gao has come to John Marshall to teach the Master class in Patent Law Practice in China.
