Two John Marshall faculty members are quoted in a new book by Bernard Sieracki about the impeachment of former Illiois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The book, A Just Cause: the Impeachment and Removal of Governor Blagojevich, is an account of the only gubernatorial impeachment trial in Illinois.
Professor Emeritus Ronald C. Smith, a delegate to the Sixth Illinois Constitutional Convention, which wrote the Illinois Constitution, and Professor Ann M. Lousin, a research assistant at the convention, were both interviewed by Sieracki. The faculty members are quoted early in the book discussing why the constitution does not establish precise standards—or “cause”—for impeachment. Professor Lousin is also quoted in regard to the testimony on the constitutional standards for impeachment she submitted to the House Committee investigating whether the governor should be impeached.
