“There’s a public safety exception to the Miranda warning … police can ask a suspect, who ordinarily would get a Miranda warning, they could ask that person about things that would have an immediate impact on public safety. We have an immediate need to protect the public, based on some of the reports we’ve been hearing. For example, there were additional bomb-making equipment that was found when the suspects were found, and some early indication that they may have planning additional attacks in the area. That’s the kind of thing that the quarrel’s exception, the public safety exception, is designed to cover.”
