Liberals are ecstatic over gay marriage and legal marijuana state initiatives. But they used to associate states’ rights with things like Jim Crow. Have times changed?
“I don’t think there’s anything inherently conservative or liberal about states’ rights or preference for the federal government,” Steven Schwinn said. “In fact, I think the founders framed our government that way. They took a system with federal government and states, [believeing] sometimes people are going to find political advantage at a federal level, sometimes people are going to find advantage at the state level.”
