The clinic, which functions as a training ground for law students while providing free legal aid to veterans, is the first nonmedical facility in Chicago to be designed around the theory that environments can soothe or trigger PTSD symptoms.
“You have to look at the design through that filter,” Harrell said in an interview at the clinic, which opened its new doors in May. “When we design using PTSD as a filter, you can see the areas that you have to alter because they might create a sense of discomfort and stress.”
