Steve Eubank, a graduate of The John Marshall Law School’s Employee Benefits LLM program, has been honored by the Chicago Bar Association as being among the best graduate law students in the city.
Eubank has worked as senior counsel for a Texas-based Fortune 500 company for more than a decade and is responsible for most legal issues faced by its human resources department. As workplace regulations became more complex, he began to search for a program that could give him the advanced understanding of the laws affecting employee benefits.
John Marshall, located in Chicago, not only offers the only ABA-approved LLM degree in employee benefits in the country, but also offers the full LLM degree online. As a working attorney in Texas, that made the advanced program an easy choice for Eubank.
“The LLM has helped me greatly in seeing the big picture of employee benefits and to get a strong grasp of its extraordinarily complex regulation,” he said. “The advanced degree is of great value to any lawyer who is working in benefits, but who did not have the opportunity to spend five-plus years as an associate in benefits practice learning the complex regulatory format of benefits.”
Eubank added, “For lawyers seeking to get into employee benefits, it should take several years off the learning curve associated with becoming familiar with both how benefits work and how they are regulated by law.”
“As an online student, Steve took advantage of a great option John Marshall provides for working lawyers. And he earned a valuable degree in a way that was convenient to his schedule, with professors available to help when he needed it,” said Kathryn Kennedy, associate dean of John Marshall’s Center for Tax Law & Employee Benefits.
John Marshall offers practicing attorneys LLM degrees in nine areas: employee benefits, estate planning, information technology & privacy, intellectual property (IP), international business & trade, real estate, tax, trial advocacy and U.S. legal studies. John Marshall also provides the option to earn LLM degrees in employee benefits, estate planning and IP law online.
