Third-year law student Stephanie Snow has accepted a position to be a staff attorney the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis. The position is a two-year appointment.
Snow learned about the staff attorney position while exploring judicial clerkship opportunities. “I knew that I wanted to do a federal judicial clerkship after law school and during my time searching for those positions I heard about staff attorney positions on the federal appellate level,” she said.
As a staff attorney for the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Snow’s primarily will be responsible for researching procedural and substantive legal issues in the appeals pending before the court and summarizing her work in memorandums for the three-judge panels, including recommendations on how the judges should rule. She also will be reviewing the records of lower courts and agencies for cases on appeal and, when appropriate, writing draft opinions and orders for the judges. Snow will report to a supervising staff attorney who will edit and oversee her work.
For Snow, the process of getting the job was fairly simple. She applied through the U.S. court system’s OSCAR website and after interviews with other staff attorneys and the supervisory one, she was offered the job within two months of applying.
