Alums George Louis Canellis Jr. (’96) and Vincenzo Chimera (’84) were appointed associate judges for the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Prior to his appointment, Canellis was the supervisor of felony review with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, supervising more than 50 state’s attorneys. He had been with the State’s Attorney’s Office since 1996, serving also as an assistant state’s attorney in the Appellate, Child Protection and Juvenile Justice, and Felony Trial Divisions, before becoming deputy supervisor.
An adjunct professor at John Marshall, Chimera began his career at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in the Civil Appeals Division before moving to the Criminal Trial Division. After nine years in private practice, he returned to the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in 2004 to serve as chief of the Special Prosecutions Bureau and most recently, deputy chief of criminal enforcement, where he supervised more than 60 attorneys.
