Ahmad Al Dajani, a first-year student at John Marshall, has published a synopsis of a lawsuit brought by Sam El-Zoobi, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employee, against United Airlines. After the suit was dismissed by the circuit court, upon appeal the Illinois Appellate Court ultimately found in favor of United Airlines, citing protections under the Montreal Convention. The article, “The Montreal Convention governs all claims on board an international flight—Even complaints about passengers who refuse to turn off their cell phone,” stresses that “lawyers engaged in any litigation involving international flights should remember that the Montreal Convention is the exclusive remedy for any claims arising during an international flight or in the process of embarking or disembarking.”
