Thomas Antoine (LLM ’10) joined Graycor Commercial Construction, Inc., a subsidiary of Graycor Inc., in January 2011. Antoine is a senior project manager for Graycor’s national hospitality and health care markets, managing the business development, preconstruction, estimating, and construction operations with profit and loss responsibility for those projects. Antoine is involved in a broad range of legal topics from TIF agreements to contract negotiation, disputes, lien rights, entitlements, and finance issues. He also recently became a LEED Green Associate after taking the Center’s Green Building and LEED Basics course.

Carlos Encinas (JD/LLM ’09) will have his article “Clause Majeure? Can a Borrower Use an Economic Downturn to Invoke the Force Majeure Clause in its Commercial Real Estate Loan Documents?” published in the winter 2011 issue of the American Bar Association’s The Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal. Adjunct Professor and Advisory Board Member Virginia M. Harding mentored Encinas during the writing of this article.
Alisa Levin (LLM ’04) was selected as a 2011 Illinois Rising Star by Chicago Lawyer Magazine/Super Lawyers. Levin recently published a draft article, entitled “Condo Developers and Fiduciary Duties: An Unlikely Pairing?” on SSRN.

Therese O’Brien (LLM ’07) was admitted to the Supreme Court of Indiana in February 2011. O’Brien’s practice is a commercial real estate/business practice in Illinois, and serves clients with business/property matters in Indiana. O’Brien wrote chapter 21, “Financing,” in the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) publication Residential Real Estate (2011 Edition).
J. Damian Ortiz (LLM ’03) wrote chapter 23, “Condemnation: Its Application to Residential Real Estate,” in Residential Real Estate (2011 Edition) for the IICLE.
Joseph Scharnak (LLM ’09) took a position at Arnstein & Lehr LLP. Scharnak handles bank loan work, AIA contracts, amending condominium declarations, and works with commercial parcels.
Patton VanVeckhoven (LLM ’10) joined The Sadler Law Firm, LLP in Houston, Texas. After spending time as a landman in the oil and gas industry, VanVeckhoven received the offer from The Sadler Law Firm to write oil and gas title opinions. This work involves determining the ownership of minerals in preparation of drilling and identifying those entitled to proceeds from the sale of production.

Larry Woodard (LLM ’99) co-authored (with his partner, JMLS alum Kymn Harp) an update to chapter 8 “Brownfield Development: Government Money for Private Development” in the update of Environmental Law in Illinois Corporate and Real Estate Transactions. Woodward was a presenter on construction contracts and construction escrows at IICLE’s 7th Annual Real Estate Short Course. He was also a presenter and member of a panel on a Webinar offered by Stratford Publications on Real Estate Representations and Warranties.
